The popularity of voluntary isolation by humans is terrifying. Our self proclaimed need for "alone time" is the beginning of either a revolution in human thought or the end of human existence as we know it. The desire and need to be "alone" and completely cut off from humans is natural but only if it occurs for short, reasonable, and healthy amounts of time. The fact that this natural tendency to alienate ourselves even exists in human life is contradictory to our existence. Humans are social creatures. We cannot survive without one another. We thrive off one another's thoughts, dreams, and doings. Without you I'd cease to exist.
To isolate one's self for a matter of days is detrimental to one's physical and mental health. When voluntarily alienating one's self the likely-hood of becoming "stuck" in yourself and in your thoughts is raised dramatically — in fact, it is apart of the process and is inescapable. When alone for an excessive amount of time we endure tremendous strain on our physical selves. So much that we make ourselves sick. The loneliness we become accustomed to and comfortable with begins to kill us, causing our hearts to become diseased and our bodies cancerous.
If our physical selves are not effected then our psyche is altered and the way we perceive our realities become blurred. This leading to apathy, ambivalence, fear, and depression.
